A Message from the Board

Hello Everyone,

Summer has finally arrived. YEA!!!!

Wasn’t the virtual conference great? I totally enjoyed the variety and quality of the speakers and presentations. The variety reminds me of the great variety that exists within occupational health nursing.

Occupational health nurses practice and support healthy work environments and prevent injuries and exposures to employees within industry, manufacturing, health care systems and a great number of other fields.

It is great that AAOHN has so many different “professions” within one organization – the variety has caused AAOHN to ask the question – Would our members enjoy the opportunity to network and interact with other OHN’s within their scope of practice? This is something AAOHN is investigating. Please respond to the forthcoming membership survey to assist with the possible formation of sub-specialty groups.

Another project that AAOHN has begun working on – the 2025 AAOHN Annual Conference in Pittsburgh, PA. Why is it important for you, the members, to know about preparation for the next conference? The conference MUST support and deliver what our members want and need, and the best ways for this to occur is to involve the AAOHN membership. Members should submit to present, deliver a poster, contact AAOHN with possible presentation topics or presenters, and share their ideas on how to deliver the best possible conference.

While you are developing your presentation, why not examine the AAOHN website to see the other benefits that are available? Register for the upcoming webinars on August 8 and September 19, and grab your spot for the Fall COHN/COHN-S Review Course, all of which provide CNEs. Don’t forget to stay up to date on the latest trends and topics relating to occupational and environmental health by checking out our engaging podcast series.

Please take advantage of all the events and benefits available to you as an AAOHN member. AAOHN is here for you.

President of the Association of Occupational Health Nurses (AAOHN)

From the AAOHN Foundation

AAOHN Members,

Summer is here!!! It’s time to relax, reflect and recharge. I hope you are energized from the 2024 Virtual AAOHN Conference. It was a great way to kick-off the Summer.

The AAOHN Foundation is proud to administer scholarships enabling 5 members to attend the AAOHN Conference thanks to the continued, generous sponsorship of Medique (4) and Annette Haag (1). Administering these scholarships is evidence of our ongoing commitment to professional development and clinical practice excellence. In addition to these AAOHN Virtual Conference Scholarships, in 2024 the Foundation has administered:

  • 3 scholarships for members to attend the 2024 AAOHN Conference of Leaders (sponsored by Meditrax, Annette Haag, and Grace Fortuna Family)
  • 9 scholarships to support members in obtaining COHN/COHN-S certification through ABOHN
  • 2 Richard Johnson Memorial Arkansas scholarships, funded by the Arkansas chapter in memory of their fellow member and colleague

Your support is needed the help enable these types of opportunities and drive our purpose of ensuring that occupational and environmental health professionals find the critical current and future answers they need. You can contribute to the professional development of fellow OHN professionals through our fundraising platform as well as on demand at The Foundation’s website (consider honoring someone special to you by making a donation): https://www.aaohn.org/AAOHN-Foundation/Make-a-Contribution

While several scholarships have been awarded, there is still an open grant opportunity. The Foundation is accepting applications for the New Investigator Research Grant until September 1, 2024. APPLY NOW! 2024 Medique Products New Investigator Research Grant Application

AAOHN has partnered with AIHA and several other occupational and environmental health organizations to solicit your feedback

If you are a hiring manager responsible for recruiting and/or retaining OEHS professionals, please consider taking this brief survey. The deadline to participate is June 30, 2024.

Developed by AIHA and with input from various allied associations, this survey is designed to help identify the current state of and the future demand for the occupational and environmental health and safety (OEHS) profession in the United States. In addition, it seeks to understand important knowledge areas, skills, and abilities for OEHS professionals.

Questions have been adopted from a similarly focused survey conducted by NIOSH in 2011 titled “National Assessment of the Occupational Safety and Health Workforce”.
