What is AAOHN?

The American Association of Occupational Health Nurses (AAOHN) is the professional association of licensed nurses engaged in the practice of occupation and environmental health nursing. The major roles and responsibilities of AAOHN are to:

  • Define the scope of practice and set standards for occupation and environmental health nurses. 
  • Develop standards of professional conduct for the occupational and environmental nurse as described in the AAOHN Code of Ethics.
  • Promote the health and safety of work and workplace communities.
  • Promote and provide continuous learning opportunities for occupational and environmental health nurses and professionals offered through the AAOHN Academy.
  • Advance the profession by encouraging and facilitating research.
  • Advocate for occupational and environmental health nursing in business, hospitals, government and other professional areas.
  • Respond to issues critical to the practice of occupational and environmental nursing.

AAOHN serves over 4,000 members located across the United States, US Territories, and the World, with our international membership.  AAOHN is comprised of 100 chapter organizations that are incorporated agencies under their state regulations. Each chapter has its own by-laws and officers, but follows guidance from AAOHN, nationally. 

The national association has an elected Board of Directors with a President, President-Elect, Secretary and 10 (2 from each of 5 regions) directors. The staff consists of personnel to support finance, the conference, membership, chapters, marketing, education, communications and other specialists that implement the strategic goals established by the Board of Directors. Volunteer member committees drive innovation and services to the membership.

What is the AAOHN National Conference?

The National Conference is the best way for occupational health and safety professionals to earn continuing education credits and boost your professional development. There will be 1,000+ occupational health and safety professionals, 9 hours of dedicated networking outside of sessions, 70+ exhibitors offering industry solutions in the Exhibit Hall, and up to 35.75 continuing nursing education credits.

Do you have to be an AAOHN member to attend the National Conference?

No! You do not have to be a member to attend the National Conference, but you do receive a significant discount by becoming a member! If you are interested in joining AAOHN or have questions regarding membership, please visit our membership page or email info@aaohn.org.

Where does the 2020 AAOHN National Conference take place?

The 2020 AAOHN National Conference will take place at the Grand Hyatt in San Antonio, TX.

What are the event dates?

Pre-conference workshops happen Saturday, April 4 through Sunday, April 5. The Conference runs Monday, April 6 through Wednesday, April 8. Pre-conference workshops require separate registration and are at an additional cost.

How much does it cost to attend the conference?

Registration fees are based on your membership type and the date you register. Please see the registration page for a full list of types/prices.

How do I register?

Members
Visit the registration page. Make sure you’re logged in by looking in the top right corner of the page. If you have trouble logging in, contact registration@aaohn.org. Once logged in, click on Attendee Registration and under Begin Registration, click Register for this Event. Confirm your information is correct and/or add in additional information required. Select any add-ons if applicable. Review the confirmation page to ensure all information is correct and then click finish. Keep this page for your records. A confirmation email will also be sent to the email address that was entered.

Non-Members
Visit the registration page. You will need to have an account with AAOHN in order to register for this event. If you are not a member of AAOHN and would like to become a member click here to join. If you would like to sign up for a free guest account here.

I do not remember my login information. How can I get this information?

If you do not remember your login information, use the Login Support function by clicking “Username and/or Password Help” on the login screen. Enter your email address and you will be given the option to have your username and password emailed to you.

Is there a one-day pass?

Yes, there are one-day passes available for the event. Please see the registration page for details on pricing.

What if I have not received my confirmation e-mail?

A confirmation will be emailed once payment is received. If you have submitted payment, but have not gotten a confirmation email check your Spam folder, then please contact registration@aaohn.org to resend your confirmation email.

Can I edit my registration even if I completed it?

Yes, you can always re-access your registration to make changes. Visit the registration page. Make sure you’re logged in by looking in the top right corner of the page. If you have trouble logging in, contact registration@aaohn.org.

Once logged in, click on "Attendee Registration." Scroll down and under "Already Registered," click "View Your Registration Details." Click on the sections you would like to make a change to.

What does my registration include?

Full Conference registrations includes all General Sessions, choice of all breakout sessions, beverage breaks, Exhibits, and all Networking events. Pre-conference sessions must be purchased separate and are NOT included in the Full Conference Option.

Single Day registrations are available for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Attendees can only select one day. This option is available to members and non-members. Daily registration includes General Session, choice of all breakout sessions, beverage breaks and exhibits for day selected. Networking events are included for day purchased.

Can I add a guest registration or pre-conference workshop after I’ve registered?

Yes, you can always go back and add on options. If you have completed your registration and would like to add on a guest registration or pre-conference workshop, please follow the steps below:

Visit the registration page. Make sure you’re logged in by looking in the top right corner of the page. If you are not logged in, please click Login. If you have trouble logging in, contact registration@aaohn.org.

Once logged in, click on "Attendee Registration." Scroll down and under "Already Registered," click "View Your Registration Details." Click on "My Options" and then "Add Additional Options." This is where you can choose to add a pre-conference workshop. To add a guest registration, click "Guests" and then "Add Guest." Make sure to fill out the required information and select finish.

What does a guest registration include?

Guests can join the Opening and Closing Ceremonies, General Session, Catherine Dempsey Lecture, and in the Exhibit Hall. There are no contact hours given with this registration.

Where are the registration check-in locations?

Registration will be located in the Grand Hyatt. Registration hours are as follows:

  • Saturday, April 4, 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm
  • Sunday, April 5, 7:00 am - 5:00 pm
  • Monday, April 6, 7:00 am - 6:00 pm
  • Tuesday, April 7, 7:00 am - 5:00 pm
  • Wednesday, April 8, 7:30 am - 12:00 pm

Will meals be available at the conference?

There will be light appetizers served at the Welcome Reception on Monday, breakfast on Tuesday and Wednesday in the foyer space outside of the General Session Room, and lunch on Wednesday in the Exhibit Hall. During the registration process, you have the opportunity to alert us of any special dietary requirements or food allergies. If you have already registered, you can still access your registration and edit your information.

Registration Payments and Changes

What forms of payment are accepted for registration?

We accept two forms of payment: credit card or check. You will find more information on payment options on the bottom of your invoice. We will only accept credit card as form of payment onsite at the National Conference.

I would like to pay for my registration by credit card; how do I do that?

You can submit payment by credit card during the online registration process. On the bottom of your invoice, select the Pay with Credit Card option and enter your billing information.

If you have already submitted an online registration and would like to pay your balance by credit card, you can re-access your registration by visiting the registration page. Make sure you’re logged in by looking in the top right corner of the page. If you click on "Attendee Registration." Scroll down and under "Already Registered," click "View Your Registration Details." You will find your invoice on the "Summary" tab.

I would like to pay for my registration by check; how do I do that?

On the bottom of your invoice, select the "Pay by Check" option. You will be given the address to send the check to. You may pay for more than one invoice from your organization with one check; Please make sure to have a copy of each invoice when paying for multiple registrations with one check.

How can I obtain an invoice for my registration?

You will receive an invoice with your confirmation once your registration is complete.

Are attendee substitutions permitted?

Only members can transfer a registration to another member. A member cannot switch their registration to a non-member. Name changes are only permitted when received in writing. All name changes during pre-registration should be sent to registration@aaohn.org.

What is the registration cancellation process?

National Conference registration cancellations received on or before February 21, 2020, will receive a full refund minus a $125 processing fee. Any Professional Development Workshop and Guest cancellations received on or before February 21, 2020, will receive a full refund minus a $50 processing fee. No refunds will be issued for requests made after February 21, 2020. All cancellation requests must be submitted in writing registration@aaohn.org.

When is the early bird rate deadline?

The early bird deadline is Friday, February 21, 2020. After Friday, February 21, 2020, registration prices increase.

When is payment due?

Payment is due at the time of registration. If you pay via check, it should be sent immediately after registration is completed. If you do not pay prior to arriving onsite, you must pay with a credit card before you receive your badge.

Hotel, Transportation and Travel Information

How do I book my hotel reservation?

AAOHN has secured a block of rooms at the Grand Hyatt for National Conference attendees. Please visit our Hotel & Travel page for more information. Please note: if you require a room at a government rate, please email registration@aaohn.org for booking instructions.

Are hotel accommodations included in the registration fee?

No, the registration fee only includes access to the conference.

What is the hotel reservation deadline?

The AAOHN hotel block fills up quickly so we strongly encourage you to reserve your hotel room early to get the best opportunity to book at the conference hotel. Discounted hotel rates, based on hotel availability, are available until Thursday, March 5, 2020, OR until the official conference hotel blocks are filled.

I need to change or cancel my hotel reservation. How do I make this update?

Conference registration and hotel reservations are managed independently. Changing or canceling a conference registration does not alter or cancel a hotel reservation. Changes or cancellations to an existing hotel reservation need to be made with the hotel directly.

Exhibitors

Who can I contact if I'm interested in being an exhibitor?

What is included in the exhibitor package?

Each exhibiting company will receive (2) two complimentary Exhibit Hall Only (booth personnel) badges for every 10 x 10 booth fee.  Booth personnel badges limit access to the exhibit hall only.  Additional Booth personnel badges can be purchased for $180 until Friday, February 21 and $230 after Friday, February 21. Full Conference registrations can be purchased for $330 until Friday, February 21 and $380 after Friday, February 21. 

How much does it cost to exhibit?

Booth Rates are as follows:

  • $1,850 – 10’x10’ Inline Booth
  • $1,950 – 10’x10’ Corner Booth
  • $800 – Non-commercial

What are the Exhibit Hall hours?

The Exhibit Hall will be open at the following times:

  • Monday, April 6, 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm
  • Tuesday, April 7, 2:15 pm – 4:45 pm
  • Wednesday, April 8,12:15 pm – 2:15 pm

Education

How do Earning Continuing Education Credits work for the AAOHN National Conference?

An individual learner choosing to attend a combination of the practice exchanges, general, and concurrent sessions can earn up to 35.75 hours of continuing nursing education (CNE). CNE is awarded for workshops, research collaborative, practice exchanges, poster reviews, wellness event, and concurrent and general sessions. Conference attendees who do NOT attend pre-conference sessions or the review course can earn up to 19 CNEs. To receive CNE, you must register for and attend the entire activity and complete the course evaluations online. CNEs are automatically calculated and certificates are generated for print once all online evaluations have been completed by the participant. AAOHN will also apply to the Commission for Case Manager Certification for continuing education credit for Certified Case Managers (CCMs).

COHN/COHN-S Review Course

The American Board of Occupational Health Nurses is updating the certification test for 2020. They have closed their test site between Nov 2019 and March 2020 while they re-write and update the questions. Our instructors did not have enough time to review the new test and update our COHN/COHN-S Review course workshop for the 2020 AAOHN National Conference. We will hope to offer this course again at the 2021 conference.

How do I build out my agenda?

You will be able to build out your agenda after you have registered and paid your registration fee. Please visit the registration page. Make sure you’re logged in by looking in the top right corner of the page. If you are not logged in, please click "Login." If you have trouble logging in, contact registration@aaohn.org.

Click on "Attendee Registration." Scroll down and under "Already Registered," click "View Your Registration Details." Select the “My Agenda” tab and select “Edit Agenda”. Once you have added the sessions you would like, click “Done Editing."

What are the hours for on-site registration?

Registration will be open:

When will I receive my badge for the conference?

You will receive your badge upon check-in on-site. Badges are not transferable and will be confiscated if worn by someone other than the person to whom issued. Registration will be located in the Grand Hyatt.

Can I get into the conference without a badge?

No, you are required to wear your badge at all times in order to gain access to the AAOHN National Conference. If you lose your conference badge you will be required to have a new badge printed. Badges are not transferable and will be confiscated if worn by someone other than the person to whom issued.

What if I have a special dietary requirement or food allergy?

During the registration process, you have the opportunity to alert us of any special dietary requirements or food allergies. If you have already registered, you can still access your registration and edit your information.
