Suicide is a growing concern and public health issue in the US. From 2000 to 2016, the suicide rate rose in the US from 10.43 to 13.92 per 100,000. As OHNs, we are trusted by employees with their confidential medical information and have the opportunity to identify the risks and signs and symptoms of suicidal ideation. But do we have the skills needed to recognize the employee in need? Dr. Jones will help us to understand the issue of Suicide and present the assessment and prevention strategies associated with risks of suicide that allows the OHN an opportunity to save lives.
Upon completion of this session, the learner will be able to:
- Discuss the issues related to suicide that includes risk factors and warning signs of potential suicidal ideation.
- Identify ways to integrate Suicide Assessment and Prevention Strategies into the occupational safety and health and Total Worker Health programs.
