American Association of Occupational Health Nurses 2013 Award Recipients

The American Association of Occupational Health Nurses, Inc., (AAOHN), as the primary association for the largest group of healthcare professionals serving the workforce, is committed to healthy and safe work and community environments. Each year AAOHN honors outstanding individuals, businesses, and chapters for excellence in activities that promote, advance, guide, and protect the occupational and environmental health nursing profession.

AAOHN Fellowship

The AAOHN Fellow designation recognizes AAOHN members who, as nursing leaders, make a significant contribution to the field of occupational and environmental health nursing. AAOHN Fellows comprise a group of leaders who provide vision to advance the skills, knowledge, and abilities of occupational and environmental health nurses, influence policy, contribute to research, and exemplify highly effective management and clinical practices.

Golden Pen Award

The Golden Pen Award recognizes Workplace Health & Safety Journal contributors for excellence in writing. This award is cosponsored by SLACK, Inc., publisher of Workplace Health & Safety: Promoting Environments Conducive to Well-Being and Productivity, the official publication of AAOHN. This year’s recipient is Angela E. Ferriolo, BSN, RN for her article “Pain Management in Occupational Health: A Guide for Non-Narcotic Pain Relief,” which appeared in the December 2012 issue of the journal.

Business Recognition Award

The Business Recognition Award is given to honor businesses that support and promote the occupational and environmental health nursing profession. This year’s recipient is Northrop Grumman Corporation – Aerospace Systems Sector in Redondo Beach, California.

UL PureSafety – AAOHN Workplace Health and Safety Award

This award acknowledges an unsung nursing hero who is dedicated to creating a culture of health and safety in the workplace. This year’s recipient is Cathy Loiselle, MS, RN, COHN-S, CEES of Westford, Massachusetts.

Nurse in Washington Internship Grant

The Nurse in Washington Internship (NIWI) Grant is funded by AAOHN to support member participation and learning about the legislative process. This year’s recipient is Jennan Phillips, DSN, RN of Birmingham, Alabama.
