AAOHN Academy

The AAOHN Academy is the education pillar of the organization. Its mission is to provide continuing education resources for occupational and environmental health nurses (OHN).
The objectives of the Academy are to:

  1. Create and sustain a diverse portfolio of continuing education that supports OHN competencies spanning from the novice to the experienced, expert and advanced care learners
  2. Maintain continuing education offerings in at least 5-6 ‘specialty’ tracks, e.g., clinical, management, health promotion/risk reduction, case or disability management, safety/environmental and strategic leadership
  3. Provide regulatory/compliance and legal/ethical offerings that keep learners up-to-date with ever-changing legislation
  4. Offer pre-examination learning opportunities for certifications needed by OHNs
  5. Deliver continuing education in a wide variety of modalities to meet the needs of members and take advantage of technology, as much as is feasible
  6. Provide chapters for whom AAOHN approves continuing education with access to easy-to-follow guidelines for their CNE applications
  7. Collaborate with academic education to influence the development of curriculum to meet the needs of OHNs and the populations they serve
